Hanna Brooks Olsen - About
My name is Hanna, and I’m a writer (among other things).
I live in Oregon. I’m also available to write freelance words or help you figure out your content strategy, if you’re interested.
I’ve written for outlets like the Atlantic, the Huffington Post, the Seattle Met, McSweeney’s, the Stranger, XOJane, and Bitch Magazine, to name a few. Dan Savage beat me out for Best Local Newspaper Columnist/Reporter. One of my essays is published in an anthology called The Better Bombshell. I’ve been interviewed by NPR, World News with Diane Sawyer, and The Portland Mercury.
I’ve built successful websites from the ground, and used to work in public radio. Oh, and in college, I was a janitor and a cocktail waitress.
When I’m not stringing together words or making sounds, I enjoy music on vinyl, bourbon, college football, making impulse purchases at second-hand stores, ballet, and sitting in dark bars with friends.
My name is Hanna, and I’m a writer (among other things).
I live in Portland.
Currently working as a senior communications and social media manager, I’ve had a lot of jobs, which means I bring an especially unique voice and experience to my work. Some of those jobs including but are not limited to: journalist, Editor-in-Chief, freelance political consultant, policy analyst, morning zoo radio personality, public radio producer, diner waitress, and janitor. I also worked for one week at a Bath & Body Works in college but when they made me say ‘Happy Fall-idays’ I found other employment.
Using my skills in storytelling, social, and SEO (hey, you found me here, right?), I've had the distinct honor of working with national corporations, government agencies, institutes of higher education, sitting elected officials, accredited nonprofits, and both state and national political campaigns.
My editorial and journalistic writing has been published in GOOD Magazine, Pacific Standard, the Democracy Journal, the Nation, the Atlantic, Salon, CityLab, the Daily Dot, Greatist, Seattle Met, McSweeney’s, the Stranger, XOJane, and Bitch Magazine.
I’ve been interviewed by NPR, World News with Diane Sawyer, and The Portland Mercury, and have been a panelist on KNKX and KUOW in Seattle.
When I’m not stringing together words, I enjoy music on vinyl, bourbon, the Seattle Mariners, making impulse purchases at second-hand stores, running, and sitting in dark bars with friends.
